Studying this right now. Surrealist writing is really cool. The movement is about rejecting the conventions of language and aesthetics and trying to represent the honest truth of your inner consciousness. A lot of surrealist writers would do automatic writing. Some writers are surrealists by describing surrealist imagery in their texts. In a way, it bridges the dream world with the real world to create a hyper-real sur-real world.

Dali's writings shit on surrealism and modern art in general, he says he ceased to be surrealist when he learned how to draw. When Breton threatened to expel Dali from the surrealist movement for suspected Nazism (Dali protested that Hitler would consider his art degenerate), Dali offerrd to draw himself and Breton having sex, which made Breton furious and he kicked him.
