Am I the only one that thinks it's a bit overrated?

It's my favourite book, I love the prose and the pacing of the story
definitely read Moby Dick and Paradise Lost first though, they'll allow you to enjoy the book much more than if you didn't

this guys prose is like half of the edgy shit you see in a lit writing thread sounds like an emo teenager wrote it

a lot of plebs attach to it because of the prose and the violence, to the point that its getting a bit annoying

still good though, wish they'd make it into a 4 hour movie and use the alt title "The Evening Redness in the West"

Blood Meridian is pretty funny too

>> No.12491327

I read Blood Meridian first and loved it, been marathoning Mccarthy all month. Read Child of God, Outer Dark and No Country For Old Men next.

I really like his Appalachian stuff because I grew up and live an hour from Knoxville.

Which book should I save for last out of the ones I've not read? Any I should skip entirely?

Any similar authors? I already read all of David Ray Pollocks stuff, he's def in the same neck of the woods

the kid got on his mule and they rode unto the the cornfields under the watery redness of the sun and over the arroyo and he reached into his saddlebag and drew out some flatbread made of corn and ate it and wiped his mouth and they rode on

indecisiveness yeah, but lack of internal reflection are you fucking retarded? look at the fucking card.

Lots of people on lit seem to think it's overrated but I think it's mostly because their taste doesnt align with the writing style or plot structure. It's my favorite book.

Don't sleep on All the Pretty Horses. Some beautiful writing. I used this one to get my Mom into Cormac. Not in a bad way, she was a little major and knows some shit about writing, and really liked it.

The Road is his most basic book vocab wise, fast read and pretty dark at points. But no amazing long sentences and new words.

It's not as fine as either Suttree or The Crossing (which /lit/ underrates for whatever reason) but it is great. In a way it's an awesome re-imagining of Moby Dick but what's cataloged is vigilante violence (as opposed to cetology) with an undefeatable 'whale' that's an evil combination of Goethe and Alexander von Humboldt.

>The Kid is a legit brainlet who just goes with the flow and only cares about his own life
that's partly true, the kid's stupid, but that's why it's astonishing that he stands up to the judge. nobody in the book offers a counter perspective to the judge. the kid can't even articulate why he disagrees with him. but that doesn't mean the kid is not wise. not very wise, i grant you, but wiser than the judge.
