I am not a Jew and I have read parts of the Zohar and other parts of Kabbalah literature. There is nothing new age about it if you read the right books, neither does it have anything to do with perennialism , something which Jewish spirituality has been associated of late unfortunately. Before getting into I would suggest Gershom Scholem's writings on the Kabbalah and study the method of Gematria .
