Hey, hey anon. Maybe, hey, maybe if your notes-taking method for reading, and your spend five hours a page method, hey, maybe if they worked so great, you'd remember Hamilton's Mythology and Biblical passages well enough to not need to spend 2 hours on wikipedia re-learning them every time you come across a reference.
I know your mommy said you were a smart guy, anon, but you can't argue with results.
If a five year old sat through a lecture on gravitational physics, he'd need to take a lot more notes than would a 20-year-old.
Let's see if you can cross-reference that with any other logical comparisons and come up with some comprehension about what I'm hinting at. I know you need a few hours so I'll wait.

reading comprehension is actually physiologically impossible for stupid people, give moby dick to a low verbal iq “human” and they will never finish it or will never get anything out of it. There are biological differences in cognitive capacities that become clear as day to anyone who is intuitive and observant. There were boys much wealthier than me in my classes who simply could not read out loud without stuttering, mispronouncing words or failing to grasp the rhythm and logic of the syntax they were looking at and it showed in every single long syntactically complex passage, never understood the allusions or abstractions and could not explain the plot even if you helped them to do so. This is a fundamental difference in competence, and whole populations suffer from these deficits

Who is smarter?
Sorry this makes you question your own assumptions about yourself and your place in the world, I know your entire identity rests on the lynchpin of your being "smart" and "high IQ". It must hurt to reassess yourself.
Maybe you have some notes on that somewhere.

>> No.12488246

>>12488218
this is true, but it does not mean that everyone who reads slowly is having a difficult time with comprehension, often times it might be their own minds engaging in a sort of "dialog" with what they're reading. These conversations could begin with notes (more often than not, only mental), which unless you're literally a passive brainlet, will inevitably lead to further research.
It's better to do than to not is how I feel.
I've met many people who claim to have complex works and yet couldn't tell me a thing about them beyond the most basic plot points.

I don't know what happened but that's pretty nice. Finished a 300 page book (Neugroschel's Kafka collection) in a week, and if I didn't have school I could easily have finished it quicker. Read the last 70 pages of The Great Gatsby (reread) in one sitting and then the last 40 pages of Philosophy: The Basics in the same day. I have had anomalies in the past, like when I reread Gulliver's Travels in one sitting when I was 13 and when I read the last 100 pages of Catch-22 in one go but now I'm consistently reading more pages a day with the same level of retention and appreciation of the writing (i.e. not speedreading)
