What sort of literature can someone read to hammer home their ability for introspection when dealing with intense fear/dread? If someone has a health scare, feels like a part of their body is dying and has to wait for hours and becomes completely overwhelmed with fear, almost suicidal, their entire body shaking with fear, just wanting it to all be over.
What do you read/internalize to combat this fear if it completely rids your mind of anything other than wanting a painless exit?

Mastering Asana gets rid of Anatomy-consciousness. Scratching, heat, etc. supposedly involuntarily movements, even sharp pain can be mastered. Some Buddhist monk who immolated themselves did not move while burning alive. This is the strength of will.
Mastering Pranayama gets rid of Physiological consciousness.
Practice Yama and Niyama get rid of Ethical consciousness.
Pratyhara gets rid of the Objective.
Dharana gets rid of the Subjective.
Dhyana gets rid of the Ego.
Samadhi gets rid of the Soul Impersonal.

Asana destroys the static body (Nama).
Pranayama destroys the dynamic body (Rupa).
Yama destroys the emotions. (Vedana).
Niyama destroys the passions.
Dharana destroys the perceptions (Sanna).
Dhyana destroys the tendencies (Sankharas).
Samadhi destroys the consciousness (Vinnanam).

This is the sort of literature you are looking for, not some feel-good books that make you forget your existential dread for 5 minutes.
