dude YES. I feel you. I read Saint Augustine and his style is fairlt easy to emulate. When I realised I was writing like him in my diary so yeah that is a thing

As you learn to cultivate your own voice you may subsequently learn to protect yourself from unwanted influence. What I think many writers do unconsciously is subject themselves to be influenced by whatever they read if the prose is stylized well, and you have to actively resist doing this by recalling what your own voice is before you start writing, and learning how to consume literature without letting it dictate your own artistry. It's a process for those (like myself) who've had this issue, but it'll be overcome as you discover yourself. Similar to how someone can insult you and you can choose to not take it personally, but may unconsciously at times allow yourself to take it personally and get your feelings hurt, you can read without letting it influence your writing if you're conscious of it, or you may unconsciously allow it to.

just have your own style retard, its fine to base it somewhat off another (Mann read Wilhelm Meister 5x while writing Tonio Kroger, but you have to know how far you are in their style and reign it back, its not bad to crank a first draft out quickly in an easy style your comfy with and the. tune it back to your own

>> No.12476817

That’s fine for now; you should be experimenting with new styles but I wouldn’t recommend reading anything when you come write something serious.

If you are aware of it it is honestly not such a bad thing. You can practice how to write in different ways so that when you find your own voice it will be able to come across better.

always try to keep something from every author you read and accumulate styles thus forming your own style by deliberate choice of what you really like about them.
