I just started this, and I got to chapter 3. Im surprised at just how wholesome this book is. Chapter 2 was a fantastic two pages and really sets the groundworj for what I can already tell is going to be a strong friendship between two weirdos.

What do you think of this book's first few chapters? What are some other wholesome, emotional books? What the frick is up with this english speaking dog?

Comfy is a word i feel usually means nothing and the people that use it often i dont trust much, but truly if it had to describe anything it would have to be this book. Trapped in a house during christmas time listening to a great storyteller tell funny stories. Its very encouraging to read because of this, unlike V in my opinion. I didnt get very far ooooohhh n V though.

Yeah, this is a comfy and fun book. The dog is great because there's no explanation and there's no payoff. It's just a dog that talks and that's it

Ive interpreted it as the reverend realizes the kids are getting bored and spices up the story a little bit.

I suspect that it's an obscure reference to an actual 18th century thing. People believed, or at least printed all kinds of fucking crazy shit back then.

Pic related is a poster of the Boston Massacre, and in the picture the dog at the bottom is looking at the audience as if to say "what are you going to do about it?" Of course, this is a good while before the start of Mason and Dixon, but I think the idea of dogs as innocent, wise observors must be a fairly common idea.

Actually the payoff is just the LED-joke right when he gets introduced, which is fantastic.
