Ultra-brainlet here. I want to learn philosophy and I'm looking for a broad overview. Soooooo.....

How is Will Durant's The Story of Philosophy?

Or should I go for something else?

I also found a book called Think It Through by a guy called Appiah. Is it good?

I heard Appiah was very good (that was the consensus on a group gathering hundreds of philosophy teachers), but never read him
I'd advise reading some Plato (even random short works), and perhaps pick an Introduction to Philosophy rather than a History of Philosophy.

Appiah does look like an introduction to philosophy... It's is very "textbook like".

And can you recommend anything in particular?

Try Copleston’s History of Western Philosophy series. I got it on /lit/‘s rec and I really enjoy it. Copleston’s way of writing reminds me of an old, passionate highschool teacher or college professor talking about their preferred subject.

start with Plato and dedicate some time with him, he's the most important philosopher prior to the enlightenment
