Know things by their fruits. These other politicians you think are being wise and selfless--what social changes have really been made under their rule? Consider it more deeply than things like gay marriage. Look at industries and the movements of peoples, and what this means from a historical perspective. Look at how wealth disparity has grown. Then, finally, consider that all the reasons you assume have caused this are spectacle. Realize that the disagreement is largely spectacle. It's true Trump is a master of the spectacle, but can you not see how he eats the stage? He spent less money, and won. Who, then, got played? Who has spent all the money and gotten no reward? Who has spent all the money and gotten the opposite of what they thought they were getting? Who has gotten what they asked for? You can read nothing about the world on your own. What is happening now in America is unlike anything that has happened in a very long time. And the changes that happen in America impact the world. We are exporting oil now. We are beginning to meaningfully export grains. With Gen Z, secondary education is moving away from universities and towards trade schools. We are changing the model of world order, and the established politicians and the press are such slaves to the spectacle that Trump has them talking about McDonalds at the White House instead of the generational impact of his policies.

No, it is not very cool at all, especially when you consider how integral the federal government is in national disaster control and relief. The longer the shutdown persists, the more we are exposing ourselves to dangers that we do not even know because no one is available to monitor and predict them.
Those jobs haven't disappeared. They have been furloughed. They will be there when the government is brought back 'online'. What might not be there, though, is the confidence of skilled employees that they can depend on their employer, meaning we may lose these people to the private sector, to be replaced by possibly less suitable candidates. So there is no reduction of the size of the government, only an attenuation of its quality and stability.

Your imagination is not reality. When the government is shut down long enough, all the executive departments have extremely expanded powers to reduce positions. Why do you think most people in government are doing something useful? How do you think HUD loses track of 500 billion dollars if everyone is doing their job? And beyond the ability of these officials to eliminate positions, there are many people who cannot weather the furlough and so will seek employment elsewhere. These empty positions do not have to be filled. It is very telling, though, when you lot tell us to think of the unemployed workers now, but when it's the millions of workers who make up our traditional industries--for whom there were no jobs to take the place of shuttering factories--and when these changes are made by clear design, you say it's unavoidable, nothing doing.

Is it mockery of the United States that makes the British people want to leave the EU? Is it mockery that drives Maduro to brutalize his people? Is it mockery of us that puts muslims in Chinese camps? Is it mockery that cuts the heads off Christians in the Middle East? Is it out of mockery that they buy our oil? Is it out of mockery that they trade with our currency?

You must realize that your views are not the people's views. Your complexes and insecurities do not reflect the national mindset. The stock market is not the economy. You think the foundation is breaking, but every day more and more American's remember the deep bond that ties us together. You do not see it, and you cannot feel it, because you are the wedge between us.

Why do you care more about what Europeans think of you than your neighbor? Why do you lecture about the exploitive nature of capitalism while hiring illegal laborers, and exporting industry to nations without worker protections? Why do you lecture about environmental responsibility while relying on an intense electronic grid that utilizes toxic materials so you can have meaningless plastic trinkets packed on ocean liners, carried by plane, and delivered by diesel truck to your door? Early is "free markets" late is oligarchy.
To say we should go back to free market capitalism is an old man saying he wants to go back to infancy.

Nostalgism.
Notice how all old tv shows, movies, video games get reworked. Classic books will also start getting reworks, together with music (there're cover bands even now).
Or Retroism.
Books will be written in baroque style etc.

Late capitalism is advertising companies using activism causes them to further their brands. Nike and Gillette are hallmarks of this because in recent days and the past year they have sided with efforts to draw attention to social issues, meanwhile still maintaining that essense of selling a product as well as provoking. It's disturbing to see that the only way to get people en masse to talk about social issues is to have it framed by massive multimillion multinational Corps and latch on outrage reactionary culture

Under neoliberlism people exercise their idenities through comoddities in an endless culture war that benifits that is propgated by corporations, politicans, and the media and results in division among peoples of the same materiel conditions.
While the soviet union calls for the workers of the world to unite. The neoliberal america calls for workers of the world to fight among themselves because of a tennis shoe.

The tv and other technologies are utilized as methods of control. This is called cybernitics. Or the study of how humans control technology and technology controls humans

Neoliberlism is revisionist, not revolutionary. It seeks to absorb so called marginalized people into the capitalist machine.
Even the communists are infected with the neoliberal revision of identity politics.
Instead of uniting on a class basis its never ending in fighting on a racial, gender, sex, basis

Tax processing is considered essential, and is still happening. The IRS is primarily furloughing support staff, so if you have any questions, you're kinda fucked.

It's almost shocking how poorly the news is reporting this. Each department is sending out a lot of communications about their status in the shutdown, but none of the news is going beyond the people and companies directly interacting with them. Journalists are simply doing zero work to explain to people what's going on.
