I had a really hard time finding out last time if this was any good. I want to find out before it's inevitably tainted by people looking to be contrarian after the movie comes out.

The film came out decades ago. Just read it.

They got Lynch to make a sequel?

The old movie is an insult. The incoming one may be good but I don't have high hopes. Although the book is a marvel to me, it reads like a novelized biblical space opera. I devoured it in a couple of weeks and started tome 2 yesterday

No, it's the dude who made Blade Runner 2049 if memory serves.

>last time
So, rather than spending a few minutes finding the book and checking it out for yourself, you decided to spend at least as long (and probably much longer) asking the opinions of a group of internet strangers?

And, having unsurprisingly got inconclusive and useless results from this process, rather than spending a few minutes checking the book out for yourself, you decided to ask internet strangers -again-?

Interesting

If you have a high tolerance for prose that is average at best, it's worth reading.

If you don't, you'll likely give up after a couple of pages anyway and I wouldn't say it's worth the struggle.

It's better than that once you realize 2049 is one of his weaker films. He also did Prisoners, Sicario and - especially relevant considering we're talking about Dune, which is set in a desert environment and has themes of the interaction between religion and politics - Incendies, which is my favorite of his.

It's good and keeps its message throughout, in a contained way, theres a lot of ambiguity instead of black and white good vs evil. just read it, you dont even need to read the sequels, but they're decent as well.

My favorite series but I really despise Marx and the story culminates into an ultimate allegory on the evils of his doctrine. So if you think Marx was right it will offend you unless you're too much of a brainlet to understand Herbert's message.

Herbert is the best science fiction author other than perhaps Dick, and Dune is his third-best novel after God Emperor and Dosadi Experiment.

Those people already exist here, nothing will change.

No, you didn't "devour" it. You read it slowly over a period of weeks.

if he pulls off Arrival, BR2049, and Dune all in a row, he will be one of the best sci-fi directors of all time (and his best stuff isn't even sci-fi)

It's fast for me to read 800~ pages in the time that it usually takes me to read 300 pages novels, dude. I'm a slow reader. That is not the point though, I just meant to highlight how captivating the book was, it's full of teachings
