I probably wrote around 1000 pages of philosophy in my undergraduate and graduate studies.

Writing philosophy is about keeping things simple. Be on point - always, and make sure your arguments are well structured. Use clear transitional phrases so the reader never gets a chance to get lost in the argument. Most importantly, don't bother starting writing if you don't know before hand precisely what you are going to say.

And here is another tip: Re-read every sentence. If you can delete a word from that sentence without influencing the meaning, delete it. Then do it again and again. Example:

1. Hume stated at one point that he believed all works of literature, including the Washington Post, are irrelevant and should be committed to the flames.
2. Hume stated that he believed all works of literature, including the Washington Post, are irrelevant and should be committed to the flames.
3. Hume stated that all works of literature, including the Washington Post, are irrelevant and should be committed to the flames.
4. Hume stated that all works of literature are irrelevant and should be committed to the flames.

Follow these tips and you might not end up like pic related.

Yeah, unless you've got years of hard study and personal reflection under your belt, or a prodigy, your treatise will be shit, I'm sorry but it's the truth.

Nobody who should write a philosophical treatise would come to 4chan's """"literature""""" board for help.

Go read OP, stop being a retard.

To express my thoughts on the mind-body problem and its relation to epistemology and the philosophy of science.

1. Stay focused on the subject
2. Design examples
3. If it needs a footnote, rewrite it
4. Keep investigating
5. Use non-philosophical people as test readers

>I'm writing a philosophical treatise
>hey /lit/ you guys got any ideas on how I should write my treatise?
You shouldn't be writing one if you have to ask us how to write one.

why not? people here are suddenly incapable of reading philosophy or have their own opinions?

Start with the most basic concepts that are required to understand the more complex things. Also, write as plainly and as easy as possible. Also use a system like this:

Premise 1: Socrates is a man
Premise 2: Every man is mortal
Conclusion 1(P1,P2): Socrates is mortal
P3: Every mortal can die.
C2(P3,C1): Socrates can die.

It makes it far easier to inspect the argument.
