Did anyone major in English or is majoring in English?
Should I just stop delaying the inevitable and off myself?

Get your undergrad in the humanities but get a graduate degree in something more lucrative (hint: something healthcare related)

Get a minor in it and major in something more useful

the most you get from english undergrad is exposure to classics and some shit you probably wouldn't have read otherwise

like what

All majors are useless unless you get some certification with it like ABET. Minors are even more useless. If all you want is a job, then don't even go to university.

i'm not telling him to minor in it because it's useful. clearly op has an interest in it and a minor is probably enough to satiate him if he's already set on going to college.

This and 2666's japanese cover are some of the best covers I've ever seen

Don’t worry. Major in what you love. If you get good grades, network with your professors, and work with your universities career services, you will be fine.

You’re only in trouble when you major in English but feel guilty the whole time and get a 2.0.

I did it and enjoyed my classes but after graduating I couldnt find any work so now I just work a shitty retail job and live with my parents.

So proceed at your own risk.

I'm very interested in working overseas, so I was considering teaching English in Asia after college, then working at the department of state and maybe get placed in an embassy somewhere

Go to graduate school. Bachelor's degrees are the new HS diploma.

I majored in English, spent a year scrambling to look for job and eventually landed one at my local library. Didn't even need a degree for it but I'm glad I did one anyway in something I care deeply about

The job is comfy, pretty relaxed as long as you don't have to deal with addicts or homeless people, and I can get any book I want before anyone else. So it's worked out alright for me

This.

Don't bog yourself down with minor concentrations.

This. Undergrad is worthless in 2018 without going to grad school.
