Looking for books that could help me enhance my problem solving skills. I'm average in maths, so would prefer something that's not purely maths oriented.

ask on /sci/ they know some good ones.

>average in math
improving in math, real math, not that high school shit will make you learn to solve problems.

don't be afraid of math, is much easier to learn it as an interested adult rather than the garbage they teach on school.

Try chess and sudoku.

I play chess. It's easy to get stuck on the same level of rating, and getting further often involves work with computer and memorising theory, there's no real development of problem solving. On top of that, on the internet you can safely play only 3 and 5 min time control to avoid cheaters.

supposedly, Sherlock Holmes is a genius captured in books, maybe the only one
there’s books about using his problem solving
that director Kubrick, worst student in high school, but had his own photography lab and he had to figure out everything on his own
Kubrick said he used the general problem solving method he came up with for every problem the rest of his life
he was also a chess player though

Don’t let the GoT brand throw you off. These predicaments mess with your head.

Google 'Logic Puzzle' book
There's an author called Snenyallmen (not how it's spelt. Less effort to type this than look it up on phone) I saw recommended in a discreet math textbook

Also I'd recommend learning enough code to do algorithm puzzles, which are extremely fun.

I can help if you want

A book I used is (unironically) "problem solving through problems"

>> No.12380301

>>12377692
SItuational play in the midgame and tactics all fall under the very nebulous term of "problem solving", but I'd argue that the only pure memorization in chess are the openings, and you only have to memorize them 6-8+ deep when you're between 1800-2000 rating which you obviously aren't.

there aren't as many cheaters as you say and god damn go play OTB then

>there’s books about using his problem solving

Google gave me this: "Reasoning Backwards: Sherlock Holmes' Guide to Effective Problem Solving".

Any other rec?

Any introductory textbook on logic or "discrete math" will be fruitful should you possess the stamina to engage and work through the examples and problems.

Non-blitz games are filled with cheaters. It's enough if they pull up an engine for two moves in the mid game and check the line it leads to.

Is this the book anon was talking about?

I saw a book recently called:
>"Mastermind: How to Think Like Sherlock Holmes" by Maria Konnikova
Heard good things about it
