Is literature the hardest medium to appreciate in comparison to music and film?

>> No.12369948

music is pure abstraction, and the symphony is the greatest artistic innovation of all time.

>> No.12369953

not necessarily, which is why nowadays Harry Potter has more fans than Bach

>> No.12369954

music is somatic, literature is cerebral. in other words, "phat beatz" are for brainlets while wise words are for patricians.

Imo, the film industry is the easiest of all mediums to appreciate.
Both literature and music have room for exprementation and subjectivity. Music and literature that is not appealing to the major audiences still has plenty of places to live.
The film industry seems to leave no space for more exprementation, the moment it becomes too obscure, it dies and gets cancelled. The money it takes to produce a film that is always very high compared to music and literature.

Yep, that is one of the main diferences.
But i guess its more complicated than that.
Music and films focus on diferent things.
Black metal fans, for example, dont mind listening to shit quality recorded music and even praise it for giving more "texture" to it, as long as they can hear and apreciate the musical composition. Films on the other hand, focus more on the image and set, if the image looks flawed and fails to represent what it should be then it sucks. A film that sucks is the equivelent of a music that is badly played in the meaning that the artists cant play all the notes without missing.
Films always seem to be more objective than subjective compared to other mediums, imo. Its efordless to see a movie, and they dont touvh the realm of subjectivity as much as literature or music do.

because people aren't used to watch challenging films
not only that, independent filmmaking is incredibly hard
an inspired author or musician can easily release his works for the world with little money, but a film is a collaborative work that costs way too much
big studios won't finance anything arthouse or challenging to the large crowds
not only that, most people are completely unaware that film can be art rather than pure shallow entertainment. You'll often find normies calling movies made before 2000 old
people are actually that braindead, imagine showing someone who only cares about capeshit and oscar-bait a director with slightly more artsy sensitivities, like one from the french new-wave or italian neorealism
now imagine showing a Brakhage film

>> No.12370327

>>12370038
even the most extravagantly produced music costs nothing in comparison to even the average budget of a film someone might see in theaters. This is like saying that people would want to own a car that was built for under 30 grand but wouldn't want to live in a similarly low budget house.

>> No.12370350

Yes, but anyone of average intelligence can read literature, being able to understand The Great Gatsby doesn't make you intelligent because guess what? So did most 15-17 year old high school students. That chode is going to attempt to read all those and he's either going to power through it all and get nothing out of it so he can virtue signal to people who don't care that he thinks he's incredibly smart or he's going to give up 75 pages into IJ like 90% of the psuedointellectuals before him did.
