There's a wonderful interview with Kurosawa about writing screenplays which applies to our goals as well. See if you can find it. Basically you have to put one word after the other after the other after the other and so on. Don't stop. You can even have a word processor opened up right now and practice.

I think of myself as a pretty good, almost erudite reader, and whenever I try to write I get the impression that there is some talent in me, but somehow there's also this heavy laziness which seems to ask me to remain forever a reader, never a writer, forever a passive spectator, never the master-builder of my own personal constructions.

It has changed throughout my life. I didn't even get serious until I was in my late 20's. Then I wrote two hours a day every day before work. Now I have all the time I want but I end up doing only a little more than that. So about three and a half hours a day. I recommend that.

I like this question. I had heard about 4chan for some time. I am not much of an internet user but I try to stay contemporary. A friend of mine visits this board on occasion and would tell me about some of my work being mentioned here. He said it would be an interesting experience in "unilateral fan interaction" or something to that effect.
I have lurked a bit to understand how to use this site before making this thread. My opinion is that this board produces better conversations than I hear at most dinner party with intellectuals and writers. I owe that to the anonymous nature of the site if nothing else.
I will probably continue to lurk and occasionally speak poorly about myself whenever I am mentioned.

I was first published so long ago that I honestly cannot say. When I was published I was rejected a few times before finally being accepted by a literary agent and after that it has been a smooth ride. Some hard times financially but staying publishable and in print has been easy.

Actually discussing literature that is outside the same shit this board always talks about. And I mean actually discussing it, not high school tier analysis or pseudo-academia. Usually the people who spend their whole profession analysing one author or period, or movement etc. People reading each other's articles and criticism and having something genuinely thoughtful to say.
