As much as I appreciate STJ (Golden One isn't worth anyone's time) he gets a lot of basic Traditionalist ideas wrong and doesn't even understand basic Advaita/Vishishtadvaita metaphysics. If you want to read Evola familiarize yourself with his background, part of this is Traditionalism, books from his youth like Pagan Imperialism and his early work in Metaphysics of War might help, but he moved away from these positions later in life. Introduction to the Study of the Hindu Doctrines by René Guénon is a good place to begin with the Traditionalist side of his background, from there Guénon's works on modernity and in particular 'King of the World' is a good place to go. Arthur Avalon might also be helpful, as well as familiarizing yourself with Hermetic an Arthurian literature as well as Roman and Medieval history. The mythologies of India, Persia, Rome, Greece and the Celtic/Nordic traditions will also benefit you in this regard. Evola was rather familiar with Islamic and Jewish esoterism, to the surprise of many readers, Guénon's remarks about both as well as cursory reading into both will suffice, you don't need to know about the 4 pillars of spiritual transformation in muhyi din ibn al arabi or the relation between the partzifum and zeir anpin in the zohar to get Evola.
