I had a crippling panic disorder which was triggered by the thought of death. Would happen at parties, during car rides, while watching a movie with friends, etc, wherever and whenever and it ruined me even more. It’s a problem that appears in some from an extremely individual based, narcissistic and capitalist society where you are told that you are the whole world from so many corners. Once you read Plotinus’s writing on the All and truly understand what language is I can’t guarantee that you won’t fear it anymore but I promise it won’t be nearly as bad.

No philosophy can help you with this, you are looking for magic words that will inspire you to become courageous but there are none. Fear of death and fear of life are the same thing, they stem from cowardice and the desire for endless self-persistence. To become courageous you must cultivate courage by being courageous, by facing your fears as teachers and not as tormentors.

Cowardice always comes from selfishness, the desire to act strategically in one's "self interest," i.e. what gives them the most protection, comfort, and advantage in the world. Cowardice is reinforced via social conditioning because it makes people predictable and easy to control - satisfying the fear of death via the illusion of an afterlife is but one of such methods of control. Courage comes from a position of altruism, a giving of the self and a suffering that that which one loves. If you want to be courageous, seek something to suffer for that isn't yourself and suffer for it, invest your life in it.

I dont think any particular philosophy will help you.

The way I think of death is that, no matter what - no matter what. Entropy is eternal. You will, regardless of your lifespan (100, 100,000) your existence will end.
Now what lies on the other side of that existence, absolutely no-one knows so don't get hung up on it.

It's absolutely and completely fair. Given a finite universe of finite energy and resources Why would it be considered "unfair" that someone should be able to consume energy and add to the universal entropy only for a limited time?
Each and everyone of your problems would get worse given physical Immortality without communion with God the Principle of Being.

I came across the great Bernard Williams essay on mortality the other day, which is just a lucid and well argued essay expanding on what we get from Epicurus. So I would recommend reading the very short letter of Epicurus here
>http://www.epicurus.net/en/menoeceus.html
and here is the link to Williams' essay
>https://wmpeople.wm.edu/asset/index/cvance/williams

The central quote from Epicurus is this one
>when we are, death is not come, and, when death is come, we are not
Like the rest of /lit/ I spent years not reading anything but online summaries but I first came across the same outlook in this anecdote:
>When asked how [Diogenes] wished to be buried, he left instructions to be thrown outside the city wall so wild animals could feast on his body. When asked if he minded this, he said, "Not at all, as long as you provide me with a stick to chase the creatures away!" When asked how he could use the stick since he would lack awareness, he replied "If I lack awareness, then why should I care what happens to me when I am dead?

The last, however, made me feel like there was no value to life (in the sense of why would I care for my kids, or offspring, or my name after death, if I cannot experience it), which is why I recommend a more sober philosophical essay (like the beautiful yet short and thus misleading letter, and progressively, Williams).

Realize that you don't permanently belong on earth. You've been forcefully woken from the natural state (eternity). The you that you feel attached to earth is a temporary manifestation of spirit. The real you can only be intuited at times and is unconscious, for consciousness is part of the material. The material world is akin to a prison which you can only be freed from by embracing the eternal spiritual principles you know to be true. Don't be obsessed with vanity in this world (money, fame, longevity, etc.) because those things are meaningless. The only measure of spiritual success is willing sacrifice and thus willing death for virtuous reasons. Sacrifice is the crucible upon which all great art rests on. A noble death is better than a cowardly victory. Seek asceticism. Wash your penis.
