I think its because most self proclaimed ecofascists don't have any science background. A lot of eco-policy people in general are just policy people first and foremost who defer to the actual science people when evaluating policy options because we only have so much time in life and we need to specialize. The ecofascist's here probably deffer to scientists even less so, thinking it satisfactory to simply spout about "muh Malthusian collapse".

I myself fall squarely into the ecoregionalist camp although I actually have to resist the temptations of ecofascism. My own people are in a very precarious ecological position with changes not happening fast enough and it is very tempting to go hard-line and tell people to just fall into lockstep and do as ecologists tell them. Yet I know this is a bad idea and that much more mellow avenues need to be explored whereas they believe that the most forceful road is the best road. To be an ecofascist is to give in to anger and impatience.

I love ecology and the eloquence of intact ecosystems. I also find great heart and meaning in the excess and cruelty of evolution. The way over many generations the wolf gives the doe her speed. The many deer which have had to fall to make speed (or smell or what have you) a meaningful differential in individuals. I have spent many hours studying and learning plants indigenous to my bioregion. I'm not sure if I am an ecofascist (Ive yet to read any text on the subject) but I am probably something similar. I dont like internet political fads.
