I'm looking to get into literature and start seriously reading again since high school as one of my new years resolutions. Been lurking for a while and I've got a few books in mind to check out.
I'm gonna fall for the greeks meme and pick up Homer's Illiad and Odyssey (which one should I read first?). Is there any others I should look into? Not too interested in philosophy atm

Start with the Victorians, work your way backwards.

>> No.12293534

If you're gonna read ancient epics read an abridged mahabharata and gilgamesh as well while you're at it

>>12293506
You should read Plato desu, it will make you interested in philosophy

>> No.12294137

Odyssey is a lot easier to read than Illiad so start with that

good

btw i recommend getting the samuel butler translations

>>12294137
but the iliad happens right before the odyssey so if you're reading both right after one another it makes more sense to start w the iliad

>> No.12294688

>>12294137
for this reason i'd recommend iliad first. odyssey felt like a breeze after slogging through the iliad, it was like a nice treat.

>>12293506
read the illiad, one chapter a day, you will read the whole book in 24 days

>> No.12295360

Iliad first. Use the Lattimore translations.
