how the fuck are you supposed to read when you're a brainlet with shit memory? I spent 3 weeks reading The Republic and shitposting/discussing about it here only for me to forget most of it in a month. there must be a way to retain information even if you have bad memory, r-right?

Pretend that instead of reading you're drawing a picture

You'd draw a shit picture because you have no idea what you're doing and have never practiced. Start easy, move up.

yeah, take notes while reading .
Think about what you read on a daily basis, take some time after every studying session to expose what you learned in your words.
Memorize some passages, make use of the expressions you learn, apply it to real life.
Discuss with other people, face to face if possible.

Impossible.

I get what you mean but i don't even think my problems is understanding the text itself. If you were by my side asking me questions as i read, we'd be having a decent discussion about the material. The problem is cramming it into my little brain. I forget about the ideas i had about the text after 30 minutes or so. I should start taking notes but i'm skeptical of it, because i'll probably forget what i noted down.

You're not stupid. Spend less time online and more time reading. Or like the other anon said, build your reading level up. It's a skill like anything else. The more that you do it, the better your comprehension, memory, and retention will become.

>i'll probably forget what i noted down.

That's why you write it down. In addition to it then being available to reread at will, the very act of writing something down greatly improves comprehension

Anon, writing is clearly to make informations available at any moment.
But don't understimate memorizing passages of a work.
Knowing by heart is and will always be the best option.

>impossible
You could join a discord or something.
Personally I dislike the idea but, trying won't hurt.

Read books about improving memory

You’ll forget plenty of what you read in them like I have but it still helps with retention.

>> No.12288987

Protip: you may have forgotten it, but your brain didn't.
I constantly catch myself recalling passages and ideas from the books I had read years ago (and never thought of again) whenever these ideas are relevant to whatever discussion I'm having. Trust your own mind, it's cleverly designed to help you. Imagine how fucking retarded humans would be if every bit of remembered information was continuously suspended in the forefront of our consciousness - you'd wake up thinking about The Republic, shit in the toilet thinking of The Republic, go to work with your mind wrapped in greek ideas, beat off to futa porn yet still thinking of Plato - it would be a nightmare.

then read it again lmao

I wish I could sit with you, and all these other anons, and talk about things and help to understand.
