op here
yeah i really just started reading in mid november but i can already tell 1984 is one of 'those' books that youll have to go back to at some time in the future

imo the ending is the worst because big brother wins, they destroyed winston, and theres no beating the party.

the hardest part of the book for me was right before THREE when the thought police capture them
i could feel heartrate increasing then the chapter/section ends and i honestly didnt pick it back up for 2 days :(

One could say 1984 consists of three acts:

1. Learning about the surveillance
2. Honeymoon phase
3. Prosecution

I consider the the first act to be the most important and most interesting. The rest even bored me, desu

yeah i agree, though i think honeymoon is a little too vague. they did meet O'brien and try to join the brotherhood

i disagree that the first was the most interesting.

i thought the most interesting was reading goldsteins book and then in 3 everything obrien says and winstons internal monologue explain the why and show the how of how the party supports itself and why big brother is unbeatable

3 was best imo

Nothing infuriated me more than reading through that third act in high school and watching other classmates pretend to read while playing on their phones, or complaining about being bored. I'm staying to think that most people would prefer to live under big brother so he can think for them.

This isn't an untypical reaction, I was also bored through most of it. Orwell uses needlessly complicated language and languorous descriptions, but it's been a while since I read it, so I can't give a great analysis.
