What am I in for, /lit/? Will I become a faggot like the author?

>> No.12272276

interesting political theory, a bit machiavelian in things a bit defender of capitalism in others.
if reading gay people made you gay /lit/ would have you sucking dick like a champion already

>> No.12272279

Nah, that book has nothing to do with sex. For that you gotta read History of Sexuality

I’m 69 pages in and it’s good so far. Not a fan of his long-winded sentences or combining of words without defining what it is precisely (e.g. scientifico-juridical, etc). He’s just tacking two words together and doesn’t explain what it is. It’s sort of idiosyncratic.
And thanks, I don’t wanna catch the gay.

>>12272279
On my list after this. I do want to tackle Order of Things but it’s a bit intimidating. >>12272315
Mm I’ll read more carefully I guess >>12272323

Amon the people lumped into "postmodernity" Foucalt is probably the most user friendly. I'm pretty sure an interested highschooler could just grab it and get most of it. There is a certain wall you face when you get the "I already knew that dummy" that another anon mentioned, but there is a point in why and how he analyzes it that might pass by someone trying to get the achievemnt of reaching the final page.

You might want to google the terminology if there is no clarification in the book, he was writing for academia and expecting people to have read a ton of older and current books.

I hope you enjoy it, good luck!

Now that you mention it I did start transitioning after /lit/ was made, but I'm pretty sure I had read some Foucault before that.

I enjoyed the book and found it interesting but there was a point during where reading it was hellish. It was around where I almost couldn't bear to read it anymore. Huge slog. But it got better after that, and I sailed through the rest and found it pretty intriguing.

I have a feeling it's partly Foucault but also partly the translation. It's from 1985 or some shit. I saw some people saying it should be retranslated.

ask your TA for some tips or to show you their technique so you can take some pointers, it's more advanced than you might think but it's achievable.
Some authors defend the clasping your left hand, others say it's just placebo effect, there is no real definitive study on the subject.
