It's extremely short, and reading very short works which are historically important is always a good idea. Consider counterbalancing this reading with the United States Constitution or similar, for different ideas.

Try 'The Soft Machine' by William Burroughs, it's really good and relatively short. You can read the whole thing on a free pdf here that's only 56 pages.

Short stories are always a good place to start, chances are if you don't read you will have a hard time concentrating but this isn't a problem with short stories.

Read How Much Land Does A Man Need? and What Men Live By both by Leo Tolstoy.


If you are going to read the Communist Manifesto you should balance it out with The Doctrines of Fascism by Mussolini (ghost written by Giovanni Gentile).
