It's a book for the 'general reader' (plebs), but real patricians aren't fooled by it

>A little too long. A rollicking historical novel written for the general reader, specifically for the young. Artistically unsatisfying. Cumbersome messages, didactic interludes, artificial coincidences. Uncritical of its historical sources.

Its without a doubt a historical novel thats supposed to be fun/philosophical, idk why nabby doesnt find it satisfying in terms of art

Should I read this? I tried the first chapter a while ago and so many different characters got introduced that I couldn't keep up

Theres a ton of characters and most are irrelevant but are used masterfully for world building. Its a good read if enjoy a book that will take you awhile

That’s kind of the point though. Kutuzov wasn't remembered as a great man. He had patience and experience and won in the end, but everyone around thought they had better ideas and better plans. He is part of the men that history forgets because they don't make noise and they just do their work without a constant search for glory; as that guy who delivers a decisive message to Kutuzov and was always diligent, but no one had him in high regard.

What did he enjoy beside his own stuff? I’m asking because I thought Lolita was trash but am willing to give his reccs a chance.
