Brothers Karamazov has 365,712 words. The average reading speed is, what, 400 words/minute?

Am I reall expected to spend 900+ hours reading this? Even 2 hours a day that's over a year.

You could read that in a couple of days. A week at the most.

not even able to do simple math. 364712 / 400 = 914 minutes (not hours). That's just 15.2 hours.

Someone doesn't know basic maths... (hint: What is the difference between a minute and an hour? Do you know?)
Also, read for pleasure not to posture how much you've read... Read for understanding not by wasting time moving your eyes across the pages with only a superficial comprehension that won't ever become part of you and of your creative energy.

>> No.12230061

it's about the lessons you learn, not about the words you read.

What the fuck OP. It takes 50 hours to read In Search of Lost Time at 400 WPM. By the way, if you're talking about spending too much time reading a book then you certainly don't read at 400 WPM. At least, it won't be sustainable throughout your lectures. Therefore, it is more like 20 hours to read the book at 300 wpm (400wpm half the time and 200 the rest).

No it fucking doesn't.
You demonstrated that even a normie that actually reads only 400 words per minute can read Brothers in 15 days If he reads only 1 hour a day.
This is a microscopic investment of time compared to the worth of the book. It might have been 3 times the lenght and I'd still recomend to read it as it stands.

If it's a word you don't understand, consider whether it's important to understand as of the moment, I personally only rarely waste energy understanding a word if the context makes the sentence understandable and I'm not doing an analytical read. If it is worthwhile however, isolate the word you don't understand, find out it's meaning by looking at the context it was used in and possibly other internet it: After you know what it means place it back in the context you isolated it from.
