Because I'm a loser with no friends and nothing to be proud of so I latch my entire self-worth into how many books I've pretended to read because I believe I'm intelligent so my image of being smart is all I have. That's why I have to posture so hard and do meaningless rankings based on arbitrary and unstated metrics, it makes me feel important when other people (even anonymously) believe that I'm a big brain Nietzsche reader (despite the fact that I'm not confident enough to spell his name properly which is why I put N instead). If ever for a second I stopped obsessing over how other people perceive my intelligence I would likely commit suicide because the weak foundation I've built my self-worth upon would no longer be reinforced daily by ranking things so that people can give me validation.
