From a purely literary perspective, how do religious texts (The Bible, The Quran, Upanishads, The Tanakh, etc.) compare to one another? Is The Bible the best one?

The Bible is incredible as a story. Depending onthe translation, it is also incredible int the way it's written.

Bible has multiple styles, genres and perspectives in it and has massive character cast spanning thousands of years. All that is interconnected. No doubt one of mankind's greatest literature achievements.

Quran is easy read dog shit that re-uses simplest stories from Bible. It retells Moses turning staff into snake four times. It's pure cringe.

Analects is written as terse to the point dialogue/monologue. Not much going there either that would impress anyone.

Dunno about other religious texts.

>How's the Quran more philosophical/metaphysical than the Bible?
If you personally learn how from a Sufi teacher or if you are steeped enough in the literature of another tradition to recognize it, one sees that it poetically teaches non-dualism in areas; like the Vedas by design it contains different levels of instructions for different levels of seekers in the same text. Ibn Arabi in his writings constructs a nearly identical system to Adi Shankara's relying mostly on the Quran and Hadith. I think that's a really interesting type of philosophy/mysticism and enjoy reading all kinds of it including western like Neoplatonism.

For example, Ibn Arabi interprets (Hadith) Sahih al-Bukhari 81:38:2 "My slave continues to draw near me with superogatory actions until I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with he hears, his sight by which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks"; in a similar way to how Adi Shankara interprets Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.8.11 "It is the Seer itself unseen" and ibid 3.7.23. "The unseen seer, the unheard listener, the unthought thinker, the unknown knower".

Even though that's Hadith and not the Quran that was the first example that came to mind, but there are many others you'll notice if you read the Quran and the Upanishads and then those two thinkers. Ibn Arabi and other Sufis often cites Quran verses like

Qur'an 41:53, "We will show them Our signs on the horizons and in themselves"
Quran 11:123 "to Allah belong the unseen [aspects] of the heavens and the earth and to Him will be returned the matter, all of it, so worship Him and rely upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of that which you do"
Quran 17:44 "There is nothing which does not glorify Him with praise, but you do not understand their glorification."

Reminds me of how shitlibs seek to extract deep meanings from Harry Potter and Star Wars. A lot. If it's not actually there but you are really vested in greatness of what others see as pulp trash, then gotta do a little esoteric mental gymnastics and hallucinate some greatness there, call it interpretion and use that confusing mess to demonstrate how deep it is.

The bible is the only readable text. Every single quote from Anglo-Germanic pseuds pretending the Upanishads are poetic and moving purely on their literary merit is perormative. Every single translation of the Upanishads that I've read is god awful. The Koran is evidence muslims aren't human; OT is excellent but repetitive and extremely autistic. >>12210186
They do believe in an afterlife, its just not important, much as the Greek afterlife was not important. Elysium was only for gods and heroes.
