Take the redpill and read Freud. Freud has been under attack by academia for a long time, but he has been frequently mentioned in psychology litterature throughout the 20th century.

Freud is to my mind, a greater challenge to religion than the sciences. He is a frigntful, vast caster of shaddows. The foolish ignore him. The clever adore him. The genius defeat him.

Not true. I study psychology and most of my profs, even the ones I have in neuropsychology, speak very fondly of Freud.

As I said, with one exception none of my profs would consider themselves "Freudian", but they praise many of his historical achievements and consider him still relevant for clinical psychology. Of course, they also point out the flaws of his theory, of which there are plenty, but to say he's rejected in academic psychology is as true as saying Jean Piaget is rejected in academic psychology.

Nobody today is a serious psychoanalyst, the field has been renamed to "psychodynamics". It shares some ideas, but it is trying to be more scientific than Freud's work.

You would have to be retarded not to acknowledge him as historically relevant.

CBT is meme bullshit where you do a bunch of worksheets, get taught some breathing exercises, and are essentially told to stop having bad thoughts as if that's useful. That it is considered "evidence-based" is a testament to the flexibility of those words more than anything else, and the focus on short-term, "quantifiable" progress leads to shallow results that are easily reversed. It treats symptoms and not causes.

CBT is actually a meme. Trying to change your thoughts is useless and counter-productive.
The key to mental health is psychological flexibility, being able to tolerate negative emotions and having flexible demands on yourself, others and the world.
I think CBT is only effective because it might make a person that usually isn't self-reflective to actually become aware of his thoughts and the resulting self-awareness helps them out.
For most people with actual emotional disorders, trying to control their emotions will only backfire and make them more distressed.
Third-wave cognitive-behavioral therapies like ACT figures this out and teach you how to develop psychological flexibility.
