I'm sorry if this is frequently answered. But where do you guys buy books online?

What's the go-to /lit/ online marketplace for buying books on the cheap?

Support your independent local bookstore. Most have places to order on their websites. Be the change you want to see in the world.

I have been buying from used Book Stores “Half Priced Books” in particularly and I have been surprised about how many books on the Lit reading lists I find. They are half as much as a regular book store and it’s fun to go in there and look. It’s a nice little bump of dopamine when you find a book you want.

curious: are bookprices in the USA fixed? Fixed in the sense of if you buy a book in store A the price of the same book can differ from the price in store B

No. Each bookstore sets their own price for books.

how can small bookstores survive over there? Isnt amazon then always the absolute cheapest source?

They do things like sale coffee and what not but it’s rough. Our biggest book chain “Borders” went out of business years a go and “Barnes & Nobles” is struggling.

Used Book Stores are thriving though. I’m the one that posted about them earlier. They are half as much and it’s fun to go in and see what they have.

Bookdepository because it's cheap and there's no shipping costs. Amazon is literally inaccessible in Australia and shipping often costs double that of the time.

abebooks

They're linked with amazon iirc
Just make sure to check the box "seller-supplied image" in the search field so you know what you're getting especially if you plan on purchasing older/ used or rare books with a higher price tag.

It also helps to look at the supplier review.
I never buy from any supplier under 4/5 stars

Never had any problems with this method, only once when I bought some used shit that was rare but cheap (without an image) and the supplier had "insect damage" in the description - lol my fault, that basically means mold spots.

Fuck amazon, purchased a complete oxford shakespeare hardcover and they must've tossed it down a chute like a shit brick cause it was partially stained on the top edge and damaged. No wrappings either, just sent in an oversized box.
Not sure how good burger amazon is but I speak for leafzon

The best spot to shop for dank classical lit books are underground flea markets, the sellers can be a real nag cause they want you to buy so if you scan their books long enough they'll try to bargain at good deals. The community is full of interesting characters that are willing to help out local hobbyists and collectors, this is coming from someone that doesn't socialize much.
Check your local indoor flea markets, some are seasonal, others are year round.

If you want to buy books cheap, go to used book stores and sales. There should be a few in your area unless you're completely removed from any population centres.

Online shopping is for buying books new, and the price will be contingent on where you live and where you are ordering from.

Perhaps my workspace to go Google searching is not as capable - as say, another anons. What if I just have an old smartphone to do that searching? What if the searching results are omitted due to Google's profile on me? What's wrong with asking this relevant and important question here on the literature board - among a sea of trash threads?
