So.. what do I do now that I've finished the first four? I don't think I can wait another 5 years for him to finally put out Dance.

Such amazing books though. Even the fourth one, which is easily the weakest, was still pretty good. Though I don't want to have to wait until the 6th book to get a resolution to the stuff presented in it.

He's almost done Dance, for fucks sake. He's even got half way through the next one. He's got 5 chapters left to go and then its done. Everyone keeps saying its going to be forever but its most likely just being stalled for HBO.

A few months ago he stated on his livejournal that he only had two chapters to do. Now it's up to five. This is only the first draft. Books generally go through two or three before being put out.

Do you see why people are tired of waiting? Sure, he may be done with the first draft, but there's a LONG way to go for it to be published. We're at least looking at another year before it comes out.

I was going to go out and pick these up tomorrow. Is it worth buying and reading them now, or shall I wait for the next one to be out?

Yeah and he's been doing drafts for the last year. Its the Knot. Still, he's getting closer and closer and I sincerly doubt that it is going to be 5 years, or even 1 more year. Its all HBO.

Nah, he's working on the HBO, but also in the books. And he will eventually finish writing the first season, probably relatively soon.

I cannot recommend these books highly enough. Go out and grab them and start reading. I blew through them in about 4 months, as they're all fairly lengthy and I'm an awfully slow reader.

Didn't he throw out like 600 pages a year ago?
I want this done right, even if it means slow...
But if he doesn't hurry I am going to have to resort to san/san fanfiction

Its gone over 1200 pages now and growing.

I'm more of the belief that the publishers announced the book was almost finished, not because there was any progress, but because they realized it was affecting sales of the existing books in the series, and they want to get the most out of the HBO show's coming publicity, so they announce it'll be out soon. That way, the people who were hesitant on starting a series that would go unfinished will buy the book.

Nothing on GRRM's blog or anything else seemed to indicate he is any closer to finishing than he was a year ago.

I like to read it as if it were played by the B-52s.

It was a rock... LOBSTER!

The only really infuriating volume is AFFC, anyway. Prior to that, GRRM shines.

Red Wedding
Theon "kills" Bran and Rickon

Not saying any part of it is bad, just the emotionally taxing scenes.

Ive just about read the 2nd book, taken about 2 weeks for the first two. Honestly hasn't blown me away, maybe the way everyone says how good they are has something to do with it. Its good, but Im still kinda hoping it gets better.

How so? (without spoilers if possible)

It concentrates on storylines that largely follow secondary characters instead of advancing the plots of Tyrion and the Stark kids.
