A brainlet like you might not understand that, but this whole board becomes totally useless the moment you decide non-personal “best of” lists are meaningful.

Because roasties have a very limited vocabulary and can't handle any deviation from the highly analytical word order of modern English. They also have no appreciation of etymology and therefore will have a very hard time understanding older writing in context.

Circe is a more in-depth look beyond the basic mythology. I feared a feminist slant upon starting it but there was not one. There is a lot of emphasis on isolation and loneliness, also focuses on the cruelties of the gods/suffering of mortals.

>> No.12182353

I'm actually looking forward to reading Circe, but most of the "popular" books on goodreads are just feel good millenial fluff, erotica for 45 y/o house wives, and some YA fantasy that completely rips off other more successful book(s).

Okay, totally obvious Hate U Give won an award for being a "black book." What criteria even goes into the category "Best of the Best" when a book that wins in no other category is selected as "Best of the Best?" That isn't how it works, unless if a book already won then it is disqualified from winning again. In which case, Hate U Give would not be considered "Best of the Best", it'd be "Worst of the Best."

This is, in my opinion, pretty blatant pandering..

>what criteria even goes into the category "best of the best"

They took all the previous Goodreads Choice awards winners of the past ten years and put them in a category together.

One of the things about Goodreads is that there's about 5,000 people who read "real literature," about 10-20,000 people who are fantasy/sci-fi nerds the type of which you could probably find in /sffg/, and about a million people who think John Green and J.K. Rowling are the best writers of all time. That's why one year the SCREENPLAY for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won best fantasy book.

It IS interesting that The Hate U Give managed to beat out The Fault in Our Stars, though. Apparently pop book fans don't develop long-term attachments to the books they like.

>21 categories in which books can be nominated for Goodreads 2018 awards
>5 of the 21 category winners are men (23.8%)
>2 of these 5 male category winners are Steven King...a mediocre writer whom is automatically handed awards by normies because they never bother to look beyond the front desk of B&N for horror/thriller/mystery
>Remaining 3 of the 5 include a book about dinosaurs, a biography of Mr. Rogers, and some Young Adult shut nobody cares about.

ABSOLUTE CANCER
