Are there actually any people on /lit/ who've unironically read the Bible? I thought it was just a meme.

Of course you dimwit. Arguably the most important book to read if you actually give a shit about literature

>Reading the bible, one of the most referenced books ever written, makes you into a devout Christian

I guess in the same sense that reading Harry Potter makes you a practicing wizard, you fucking brainlet.

This, if you don't want to kill yourself you don't need to bother with Kierkegaard

>> No.12140358

>>12140347
If you want to kill yourself (and have read the Bible) should you read Kierkegaard?

>> No.12140363

Fear and Trembling is pretty easy to dive right into. If you know about Genesis you'll probably be able to get it.
>>12139490
This is good, knowing that Kierkegaard was trying to come to terms with his cuckoldry fetish helps too.

>> No.12140377

Reminder that God put Abraham through all that bullshit, so Kierkegaard would be able to write his book.

>> No.12140378

Can someone explain in brainlet terms the difference between "faith" and "belief" as Kierkegaard sees it?

>> No.12140392

>>12140378
Kierkegaard wasn't big into apologetics.
Faith is holding a "belief" despite knowing that it is beyond your capacity to reason.

I had a hard time understanding it at first, took a break from it and watched Neon Genesis Evangelion for the first time. When I picked it up again it made a lot more sense. Idk if it was just because I needed to read it twice, but I think any existential media is kind of a primer for Soren's ideas.

>> No.12140561

>>12140556
Do you think Kierkegaard would like Evangelion?
Would he be a patrician asuka-fag?

Caring probably.

I think he would like it, if I had to put money on it I'd guess he would be a Misato-fag.

Rei = Knight of Infinite Resignation (I must pilot the robot)
Asuka = Aesthetic Pleb (Piloting this robot is hella sweet and I am very cool)
Shinji= Aesthetic pleb (This robot piloting is unpleasant I do not want to do it)
Misato = Knight of Faith (I must send these kids to pilot the robots even though the situation is hopeless)
He'd fag on Misato

Hegel and maybe Schopenhauer. Both of these will in turn require acquaintance with Kant, and Hegel will also be much easier to read if you get the hang of Fichte and Schelling. Socrates (Plato) is also relevant to Kierkegaard. That's very time-consuming to read just Kierkegaard, though, so try and see how secondary sources help you out. The #1 priority is Hegel.

Recently read "Kirkegaard, a single life" at another anons recommendation. Was an excellent read and did a good job contextualizing Copenhagan at the time, would recommend.

unironically yes

like the part where Johannes goes over to Cordelia's house and ignores her just to talk about grain prices with the aunt and Cordelia feels the tingles

and then there's the part where Johannes keeps egging on Edward who is also after Cordelia, but Johannes knows he's a beta and AMOGS him by giving bad advice. He tells edward to let cordelia borrow a book and he laughs to himself because he knows cordelia finds him revolting. Shits seriously straight out of Roosh
