A lot of good books on the list, but "To Kill a Mockingbird" isn't even ranked. I don't think very highly of this list.

As if American/British bias aren't obvious in similar list from these countries.

Brave New World is higher than 1984.

It's a poll of 17000 random French people who were given a list of 200 books and asked, "Which of these was most memorable?"

Most people hadn't read all 200. Most probably hadn't even read 20 of these books. The list was culled to 100 then sorted by popularity.

This is a "List of Books Whose Titles Are Recognizable to Random French People" not a "List of Best Books, According to France"

It's better than most if not all British and American lists.

That's for sure.

The Master and Margarita is way too low though.

>> No.1214141

This isn't a tier list or a ranking list you morons. Read the goddamn article. It was a title popularity contest. Every French person can recite the first sentence to Swann's Way. Every French person was read Le Petit Prince as a child. Bla bla bla. Books are ranked high because people recognize the name, not because Le Monde thought they were better.

I don't think you quite understand the cultural importance of Asterix in France.

Nice list, but it's from le monde...you can see how Francocentric is the list.

For example: Foucault, but not Kuhn (and they chose a book pretty similar to Kuhn)
