I've heard this book is supposed to be philosophical and insightful and whatnot, but I started reading it and I already hate the main character. Possibly a very pretentious rendition of what neckbeards and the author imagine themselves as: intellectual, rich, blasé, and "nihilist cool". Lots of fedora tipping and "film noir" aesthetics. Pretty teenager-ish stuff.
Is Sartre the original neckbeard gamer? Is this all there is to "existentialism"? Rick and morty typo pretensiousness?

You're hating a book older than your father because it reminds you of pop culture caricatures of some barely existing segment of the current adolescent population. Who exactly is being immature here, OP ?

Reading books for identification, be it of yourself or of categories of people you hate, is a complete waste of time. Try to understand and address the philosophical point being made in the book instead, anon. It's not that hard.

Look at the book as it truly is, do not allow your mind to impose the structure of a book upon it. Then you will see.

I also disliked this book the one time I read it. I found it boring. I'd read the stories in The Wall instead.

Sartre managed to be a redditor before reddit. He was an ugly frog, a supreme gentleman and a commie. Camus is the chad philosopher to Sartre's autistic virgin

If this is so "Reddit", is there nihilistic/pessimistic literature that isn't from the perspective of an intellectual, rich, blasé character?

Sartre was a gobblydygooked eyed manlet so its surprise he wrote that cringefest

>> No.12116216

Yes, the book gets pretty boring sometimes and you're kinda disappointed with the inexistant climax. But that's the point right? It's still one of my favorite reads and the tree part is just amazing.

Funny how this analogy also applies to their main characters in their first novels. Chad Mersault vs Virgin Rouquetin.

Existentialism is - 'tis well known - a movement of philosophy and literature for teenagers, much as surrealism is as regards art; one will, hopefully, grow out of it (I'm talking to you, /lit/), and join all serious Criticks in not taking it seriously.

Ah bon? Qui est l'auteur de cette blague vaseuse? C'est pas la première fois que je vois des angloïdes parler de Sartre comme d'un philosophe sérieux.

Existentialism tried to answer the question of meaning and self-honesty inside a system that is designed to push the subjects into schizophrenia.
Those guys were suffering from what they were describing that's why they were able to see it clearly. Their whole movement was a process of self-analysis but most were not strong enough to overcome their fate.

Stop trying to identify with the protagonist.
