books that replace having friends?
Preferably books about visualising, image streaming, day dreaming and lucid dreaming

I'm a shut-in and my best frens are Philip Dick and Roberto Bolaño, I write letters to them. You should read them, they will be glad to be frens with you too.

I do that mentally for my favorite authors, I haven’t written actual ‘letters’ yet because I hold out a little bit of hope, but yeah it’s nice.

Not a book but the persona games are actually really good for this. I had to stop playing Persona 4 Golden half way through because I got too close to the characters and it was bad for me. It’s very easy to bond with the characters in a game like that since it goes for like a hundred hours. You can’t usually put that much time into a book or movie. For books you probably want to go for something by a comfy author like Murakami where they’re good at setting up the atmosphere and pulling you in. After Dark is pretty short and far from his best work but the I enjoyed the characters.

Yeah the gameplay takes some getting used to. I just played it on easy since I didn’t feel like grinding at all. If you can push past it though it really opens up, its essentially a real life simulator where you can work part time jobs, do after school activities, meet new people, form bonds, etc. It can be really addictive if you get past the grindy stuff.
