Stephen King is a bad writer
>he's not great
He is one of the greatest writers of the last 50 years undoubtedly. Far more talented than Roth or Gaddis.

Where to start with Houellebecq?
I speak French if that makes any difference.

Also I read the premise of Submission and thought my southern conservative dad might get a kick out of it. Should I buy it for him for Christmas (in english)?

But Stephen King is a cucked faggot, Houellebecq represents the intellectual vanguard of the incel movement and has massive influence and talent.

King is more of a pure storyteller, the kind of writer whose stories people from all walks of life can enjoy. Houellebecq has all but cemented himself as a member of the literary canon. They're both good writers, but they don't really have much in common, unless you mean to compare him to King solely because he's popular.

I would start at the beginning, with his first novel, a short book called Extension du domaine de la lutte, translated strangely to Whatever. And if you like that move on to his second novel, Les Particules élémentaires. The fans of Houellebecq I know agree with me that those are his two best novels.
