Been looking to improve my vocabulary in day-to-day life and wondering what books would help with this. Went ahead and bought Dante's Inferno and thinking about HP Lovecraft books. Suggestions?

Ignore the trols

I really enjoyed call of cthulu and dunwich horror by HP lovecraft.

I think you can improve your vocab through reading. Even better is if you keep a journal and write about what you are reading a bit after each session.

This is a really amazing classic that is also short and easy to read if you are just getting into literature.

Go on Wiktionary every morning, find their word of the day, and find an excuse to use it throughout the day.

e.g. if someone says they prefer tea to coffee or something, accuse them of being a heresiarch.

You'll look autistic af but it works.

Just read. Read news, literature, scientific journals, whatever interests you. Your vocabulary will develop quickly.

I'm on the third volume right now and I love it. It can be quite cumbersome to get through, at least is it for me, since there's a lot of old archaic words to look up.

vocabulary is for fucking retards, unless you're esl. most complex concepts can be explained in simple language. creativity in writing rarely rests on vocabulary. but if your goal is to impress retards however, go for it

I posted a recommend in this thread and I don't think theres anything wrong with wanting to expand your vocab, but definitely give consideration to what this guy is saying here theres a lot of truth in it.

>looking to improve my vocabulary in day-to-day life

ull look so smart talking like a 700-year-old hermit dago who spent his entire end of his life writing about a woman he saw once in passing on the street. be sure to pick up the longfellow translation to really get those 14th century florentine metaphors and methods of speech. bitches will get so fucking wet

>"so anon, wanna go out to a movie sometime?"
>"O Lady of virtue, thou alone through whom the human race exceedeth all contained, within the heaven that has the lesser circles, so grateful unto me is thy commandment to obey, if 't were already done, were late; no farther need'st thou ope to me thy wish!"

Why do you want to improve vocab for day to day life? Big vocab is harmful if anything in nonprofessional settings.

I think people say they want to improve their vocabulary but really would rather just speak more eloquently and have a better grasp of general vocabulary that comes form reading high quality fiction. hes also just getting into literature so its good to start with something thats short, not too complicated but really high quality anyway
