How do I put down my cell phone and video games and read a book without being bored in 2 minutes?

Train yourself to lift weights first

Why? Lifting weights is annoying. I prefer to just do body weight stuff.

Mindfulness meditation helped me sit for longer periods of time reading; also you have to find something that you genuinely enjoy reading and not something that you feel "you should read." I've fallen into that trap too; I thought everyone should read some of the most basic classics like Moby Dick. And I grinded my brain against that book and gave up. But after years of routinely reading for enjoyment, I went back to it and enjoyed it thoroughly.

After losing the habit of meditation it became impossible to go back to it. The moment I sit down and breath, I'm bombarded with inner words and images.

Force yourself to read for 15 minutes, if after the 15 minutes you don't feel like continuing to read then don't, but if you find a compelling book then you'll probably continue to read on your own volition.

Download ebooks to your phone. Your brain won't notice that you're reading literature rather than browsing reddit. I swear it works.

Read in the morning, then you'll start asking "how do I turn my phone on without killing my 4 hour headspace zen?"

Force of habit. You are what you do, not only in the sense that your actions are the only way others can understand you, but also insofar as you become what you do. Read some Cognitive Behavioral Therapy summaries and Aristotle's Nicomachean Ethics.

Try reading something you'll be interested in. You don't realize what reading has to offer until you read something you like imo

Working out improves your concentration, so do tha if you aren't already. More importantly make sure you're reading properly. IE that you are practising active reading, which is the only real way to read. If you're not reading actively you are skimming. This sjould be in the sticky.

You needed to be born before 2000.
Unfortunately modern civilisation has been slowly debasing our attention spans, thus young people are conditioned to almost be at a goldfish level of alertness

Then you gave in to it at a young age. Probably watched tons of tv and playstation as a kid without a proper authority figure giving you structure. All you can do now is quit tech and digital media for a month. Reset your soul to the limited, true information around you. At the tail end of this start reading. Then gradually add in other medias. It'll suck at first but you'll realize that all the digital shit just isn't worth it, not even /lit/
