What are some books similar to this? Stuff like nightmarish surrealism and industrial landscapes

>> No.11962866

It's not really like Eraserhead, it's a bit more Mulholland Drive-sy but if want something unironically Lynchian check out the short story Teatro Grottesco by Ligotti. It's a very short but entertaining and "nightmarishly surreal" read.

Lynch is all-style no-substance shallow obscurantist fluff for pseuds who think art is about being wowed by surreal visual effects, so probably either Finnegans Wake or (depending on your opinion, and despite having some actual content to his fluff here and there by accident) Samuel Beckett, who incidentally sucked the dick of the guy who wrote Finnegans Wake.

You could also try Pynchon, if you want middlebrow shit that pseuds force themselves to think they like because they were told it's supposed to be prestigious.

Ballard and Burroughs has been the obvious answer since the mid-70's.

History really did end, and we're all stuck in a vapid repetitions hell now, I suppose.

I remember when I read Molloy I imagined it being set in an Eraserhead world. Even though the book is set in the countryside, the bleak, absurd main characters reminded me of each other.
>"Imagery from Dante is present throughout the novel"

>"Degradation and vagrancy vacillate within the strange, surreal and at times ghastly world of Samuel Beckett’s novels"

Care to elaborate on those themes?

I'm not the guy you're responding to, I'm just curious.

Something about meagerness and how people just pretend things are fine and good (especially regarding horrible little babies) when in fact everything is terrible...is that at least partially correct?

This, his first novella Charivari is similar thematically regarding childbirth and presents that sort of external depication of fear and anxiety but not to such a surrealist level. It's the most similar thing to Eraserhead that i've read.
