Pic related might interest you. A young priest gets involved with the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, gets trapped in the Jungle with them and all that. The war mirrors his own internal conflict. There's deceit, murder, plot twists, revelations. All in all a great exploration of the horrors of war, the concept of faith and the vacuousness and brutality of idealist revolutions. It is a graphic novel though, so it may not fit what you're looking for.
