What books would you consider essential for any human being to read?

None, honestly. Reading books is no longer an important activity for learning. Plenty of smart people today don't give a shit about books and learn everything they need from the internet.

Personally, I think that by the end of this century we'll be well on our way towards becoming a post-literate society, where knowing how to read and write is no longer necessary.

>learn everything they need from the internet

except for how to sustain focus on one subject for more than two seconds and flesh out large concepts or ideas in a drawn out elucidated manner, making connections between things and the bigger picture

the internet has destroyed everyones attention spans. the practice of reading helps to increase that skill. because really, you need attention span to do anything that Actually matters - and especially to THINK for yourself and work things out instead of just sucking in tiny facts and opinions and adopting them as your own

Given that a prime distinction of her philosophy is the historically powerful rejection of the tribalism/religion of the former and the culture and politics of the latter, this is important why?

All of the above + oil painters (osamu obi comes to mind), illustrators, and digital painters/graphic designers.

I'd buy it if none of the above produced anything interesting, but that's not the case.
