what are the most /lit/ cities in America?
I'm thinking about moving to one to begin my literary career. NYC?

>> No.11935187

NYC was /lit/ in the 70s and 80s. Now /lit/ means living with your parents while getting you YA books published. Also, you have to be a woman, there is no future (or need) for men in literature.

I live in NYC. It’s lit in the sense there are a lot of writers, book stores, readers, etc., but it’s not like people sit at cafes and discuss ideas and publish work as they rise through the ranks of the literati. Everyone just works, drinks, posts on instagram and tries to make rent, just like everywhere else.

Most of them live in the slummy, non-cool outer areas with roommates, or they commute from fucking new jersey. Presumably. Most parts of brooklyn look like a trash heap and the other outer boroughs are even worse. You can pay a million bucks in rent to live in the hipster gentrified enclaves, or you can live in the crime filled slums and risk getting jumped every day.
>>11936411
>manhattan
What part and how many years ago?
NYC is the only city I really like here but the rent prices drive me nuts. I don't mind a leaky, drafty shoebox, but I refuse to have roommates. Fuck that. San Fransisco has alright parts and nice weather but the crime and hobos are out of control. NYPD actually does their job. It's a shame because otherwise the bay area could have been heaven on earth, but no, gotta let the hobos have the run of the place. They're even worse than the negroes at this point. At least blacks are toilet trained.

This. Why does everybody assume that every big city is like New York, or Los Angeles? There are tons of large, interesting cities where it doesn't cost nearly as much to live as it costs in the major bicoastal cities. I live in Dallas,
Texas, and I have an extremely nice apartment that costs me what it cost to share an apartment in Brooklyn. My Dallas apartment has central heating and air conditioning, too, along with a washer, dryer, and dishwasher.
