Which three dialogues of Plato are the greatest?

>> No.11915320

>>11915307
Republic, Symposium, Phaedo

>> No.11915956

Gorgias, Meno, Theaetetus.

>> No.11915960

>>11915956
>t. pseud

>> No.11915964

Apology, Symposium and Phaedo are my favorites.

>he thinks some of the most academically studied and popular dialogues are pseud
Have you even read one of them?

>> No.11915974

>>11915967
>“Hey slave boy, do you think if I multiplied this line by two it would be twice as long?”
>”No.”
>”Do you mean yes?”
>”Yes.”
>”See Meno, the soul prexists the body and is born containing all the truths of the universe, as I just demonstrated.”

Yeah definitely his most masterful work

>> No.11915980

>>11915974
Why is Meno pseud because it's not masterful in your eyes?

>> No.11915981

>>11915307
Critias and Timaeus

>> No.11915986

>>11915980
You just have sorta bizarre choices for your top three platonic dialogues is all. Like some of the most impersonal, non-literary dialogues that deal with issues covered in greater depth elsewhere in plato’s oeuvre. And any “top three” list that doesn’t contain the republic seems to me deficient by default.

>Which three dialogues of Plato are the greatest?
Who the fuck speaks like that? How about "what are Plato's three greatest dialogues"?

>> No.11915992

>>11915986
Theatetus is dope tho

>> No.11915993

>>11915990
I think you're the autistic one here actually

You don't think the description of the soul as a jar in Gorgias is stunning?

>> No.11916018

>>11916003
> because if ur leaky I’ll never have a nuff pleasures but always want another pleasure

Meh, not the most moving dialogue to me but to each his own I suppose. To be fair I haven’t read it since like second year undergrad

>> No.11916028

>>11916018
The image of a jar that is shut because virtue/goodness is permanent if held on to is pretty moving to me. Reflects a quality that i find important in life. I also like Phaedo, Timaeus and Parmenides.

>> No.11916071

Parmenides, Republic and Symposium are my picks. But 3 is too little, Plato wrote a lot of gold

>> No.11916423

Why Republic and Symposium, anons?

>> No.11917019

>>11915974
>oversimplifying this much

>> No.11917463

>>11917019
Obviously...but it was kinda a funny oversimplification

>> No.11917670

Anaximander Antiphon and Lyceum

>> No.11918554

>>11916423
Republic because muh cave allegory and symposium because i simply like it

>> No.11918623

how2understand theaetetus
I'm starting to feel like I'm a brainlet. I think I get the central concepts, but the arguments are running circles around me.

>> No.11918827

Easy: Συμπόσιον, Πρωταγόρας and Παρμενίδης. Now fuck off.

>> No.11918863

>>11915307
Theaetetus
The Symposium
The Republic

>>11915986
>Theaetetus
>non-literary
Kill yourself. But before you do it, go and read Plato for once, anon's choices are fine.

>> No.11918873

>>11918623
Just keep reading and rereading, anon. Theaetetus is a really rich dialogue, you'll get it eventually. I thought it was easy but fucking Parmenides now THAT's a difficult dialogue.

>> No.11919620

if you read all of plato, you must be bored or something. read the republic and keep reading what you like until you feel like you're out of the cave. that is the point of plato, to get out of the cave, to leave npc life behind.
if you want to know what he thought about something specifically look it up in the index, its meticulous, you can see his thoughts on ghosts and sandals and probably toenails, just look in the back of the book.

>> No.11920203

Phaedo, Phaedrus, Philebos
