Friendly reminder that you cannot engage in a philosophy text unless you have some decent experience studying philosophy at a good university. "Self-studying" might work for pure literature, but not here.

This is sad but true. If you don’t spend at least three years learning philosophy in a competitive academic environment, being in at least the top ten percent of your faculty, you’ll never be proficient enough in philosophy to say anything even moderately interesting about it.

Because it’s funny but also it crushes the idea of reincarnation into smithereens. It’s a red pill of a small quantity to normies. And if you’re sick of all the slang and meme culture get off the internet grandpa.

If people can teach themselves up to graduate level mathematics and upper division physics and chemistry courses at home, and they can, then you can do graduate level philosophy work at home. You're the anemic niggers of the high iq degrees and don't you ever forget how soon our time will come to be DROPPED from the termite hive like the rest of the humanities and social sciences.

The only thing university provides is a constant prod to keep reading, but the ways in which it tries to get you to do reading are all bad and shallow

If you can somehow combine the "oh god I just want to play video games and jerk off and study later, but I have to study, I have a deadline, oh god I'll embarrass myself so badly if I don't meet this deadline" effect of university with the self-direction of a genuine autodidact, you can do pretty much anything

Community helps too, meeting other people with your interests. But even that is rare in university if you aren't into shallow mainstream shit

I said be able to say something interesting about it. Don’t misread, nitpick and equivocate. We both know the point of studying philosophy is to gain wisdom and greater understanding, and also to be able to engage in fruitful philosophical conversation. Someone who has the wisdom and knowledge gleaned of serious philosophical study, and who can have fruitful conversations about it, will be someone who has interesting things to say.

Interesting things to say about rote glass castle abstractions maybe. Although academic specialization is useful, living in that world leads a person to lose perspective of the actual problems and doesn't work on actual solutions.

God you poorfags will never cease embarassing yourselves. No matter how many times you are beat down and put in your place by people who have seriously studied philosophy after bleating pitifully that “real philosophy” comes from “life experiences”, you keep coming back for more. I can’t determine if you have too much pride in being uneducated, or no pride at all, and that you actually, in some masochistic way, enjoy getting beat down in front of the class, enjoy getting laughed at and bullied, enjoy waving your little dinky noneducation around so everyone can giggle about how small it is

Id say I've been studying serious philsophy for about a year now. Years prior it was casual. I'm certain I can say something interesting about what I read, not only that I can relate my own thoughts to philsophy at large. I'd never get a philsophy degree. When I go to school I'm planning on math or life sciences, not sure if I want to go into theoretical biology or philsophical logic. Getting a philsophy degree would be a complete what's of time. I could totally see myself doing PhD in metaphysics, if I ever have that possibility affored to me.
