>tell myself I will read one chapter of a day of whatever book it is
>some books I’ll spend entire days on a chapter, and other books I’ll spend three minutes on a chapter so I can have time to go outside and hike and stuff

Why the fuck don’t authors make one chapter a readable/comprehensible length? What the fuck is wrong with people

You should be reading AT LEAST 50 pages a day. Very few books have chapter lengths that are longer than that

>50 pages a day

This isn't necessarily viable. The internet and various other external dopamine sources has severely damaged people's reading comprehension and attention span. 50 pages of a novel may be acceptable and sufficient, but 50 pages of a philosophical work might be over-extending, especially considering one should pause for reflection.

Naturally, once the brain is trained, 50 pages would be the base. However, OP's brain is severely damaged.

Stop watching porn.

>generally reading based on either relative or arbitrary constraints
why are you doing this in the first place? read when you want to read.

I just started reading a book about landmark Supreme Court decisions and I've made it my goal to read 15 pages of it a day, that's obviously very easy but hey you gotta start slow, plus I could read more than 15 pages if I really wanted to

I literally cannot do it without the arbitrary constraints

Someone help me

Tolstoy is the worst for this, why the fuck are his chapters so short? Having said that, why not just read for 30 minutes each day or some other length of time like everyone else does?

Does this count if I'm reading 20 pages each of three books per day?
Not that this arbitrary number matters, just wondering
>>11910789
I haven't read Tolstoy but if the chapter lengths are around the same as Lolita and Notes From Underground then it's a Russian thing
