Yes, if you didn’t start at least reading some entry level philosophy like Hegel and Schopenhauer by age 12 it’s too late for you. Obviously you can still read their work but you’ll never be able to connect with it or produce work on a similar level like I can.

It is, the global elite were reading the Greeks starting at age 12 and received a top notch trivium education from high quality private schools. By age 27 they are well versed in all philosophy and are already well established at prestigious careers in law, business, public policy, and medicine. By then you stand no chance, maybe you can eke something out with a good degree and make 120k a year, or start your own business and make a couple million with a mcmansion and BMW, but you will NEVER be one of them.

I'm 20, got a concussion and self isolated myself after and just autistically read all day while studying on the side. I sold every form of entertainment/hobby and now my room is just a bed, protein powder, a kindle and some books. Since you're 27 with your life together starting now is pretty optimal. I feel unnatural, like I had this dream the other day where I was a non physically-comprehendible humanoid-being in a dark room staring at a floating light. I also remembered a memory I have before being born which physicalised my subconscious into two entry-ways at the start of the year. Help me.

Think there's much less certainty written into philosophy than there used to be, but otherwise agree... Aside from critical thinking and logic, which really needs to be drilled into the head from primary school on, if not sooner - but, of course, that'd make it harder to divide and rule the populous.

You can start reading philosophy at any age as long as you're not retarded and can keep up with a certain level of abstract thought. You don't need to memorize everything you read, but you should take notes on the most important points and copy definitions for words that may be unfamiliar to you, or may be used in a certain sense which you hadn't known about.
I suggest you to start with the Pre-Socratics, continue onto Plato, Aristotle, and make your way from there.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1y8_RRaZW5X3xwztjZ4p0XeRplqebYwpmuNNpaN_TkgM/mobilebasic?pli=1
If you feel like reading the Stoics, Epicurus, Cicero, and the Neo-Platonists, then go ahead and do so, but they're not absolutely essential to read many other posterior thinkers (like Kant or Aquinas). Most of Medieval philosophy will be of very little interest to you unless you're either a) into Aristotelian logic and metaphysics or b) into Christian theology. Nevertheless, you should at least read one of St. Augustine's major works and one of St. Thomas Aquinas' major works. You should most certainly read Descartes, Hobbes, Spinoza, Locke, Leibniz, Hume, since they built up to Kant, who is probably the most influential philosopher after Plato and Aristotle. After that philosophy more or less splits into lots of different schools of thought. Pragmaticism, British Idealism, and analytic philosophy represent different incarnations of a certain kind of Anglophone trend which prioritizes empiricism, certainity in truth, and a trust for one's knowledge of reality, which are somewhat opposed to Continental philosophy (which is anything that doesn't come from America and the UK and that has been made during the last 100-200 years, so at least since Husserl, but probably all the way since Hegel).
Please remember that philosophy is mostly idle speculations, and will rarely, if ever, actually be applicable to real life situations. Therefore, do not expect anything but interesting-sounding ideas and concepts out of it.
Also, please do not assume that any one philosopher, or that any theory is absolutely certainly true, for what may be true to you might not be true to them and vice versa.

There were also lots of Pre-Socratic philosophers' writings back then. Zeno of Elea famously wrote hundreds of pages where he defended his master Parmenides' doctrine, and where he wrote down the now-famous five paradoxes of Zeno.

Your time allocation and goal is more important than your age. If your goal is to just understand a couple of things that interest you then just pick up some secondary lit on the the topic. If you are looking to become fluent in western thought then you should be in a position to dedicate a significant portion of time to it, otherwise you are kidding yourself.

welp, do you think about and mentally prepare yourself death and dying? meditate on that shit for any period of time?
because Ka-Chow that was enough in Socrates' eyes to define philosophy.

but for real, s' never too late. just try to hold off on more modern ones, cuz outside of the Analytics, a lot of it just seems to be dudes pimping their worldview out with super sexy pitches and with not the most solid logical underpinnings, thereby creating cults.

easy peezy start, give "The Problems of Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell a go. s' only a 100 or so pages and he gives a logic nerd's account on certain issues like perception of reality or the nature of existence (i.e. are we physical or ideas propped up by an outside perciever)
