It depends, but solid choices are Brian Eno, Basinski and Boards of Canada. Maybe some comfy folk, midwest emo or dream pop (at extremely low volume so I can't hear the lyrics). The Sounds of the Sounds of Science by Yo La Tengo is nice.

The Disintegration Loops is good, especially cause it's so fkn long
Eno's ambient stuff is always a strong choice
The Caretaker, Stars of the Lid, etc.

Liturgy is good music. Just don’t mention them around black metal virgins.

It’s like blackened heavy rock with indie rock influences basically. It’s really progressive imho.

Whoa you guys have great music. I thought I was one of the only ones that listens to black metal and electronica while reading. Wish I knew more of you guys.

As far as liturgy goes I have no idea what they sound like as they never really pricked my interest. But I do love deafheaven.

I’ll probabl be listening to drudkh or literally anything from anytime from Ulver.

Why would you listen to music while you read? It's like how people listen to music while eating or taking a dump. These are all unique and special experiences on their own. They should be enjoyed on their own. Silence serves as the foundation of creativity. Why would you let the tomfoolery of Myshkin or the critical life advice of professor Peterstein be sullied by the dark nostalgic tunes of Geogaddi?

You miserable faggots. Stop spoiling your reading experiences (and spaghetti or painful shits) with music. Listen to music on its own time.

You miserable presumptuous no-talents!

I get all my music from /mu/ and rym. For reading ill just put on ambient like Brian Eno or Steve Roach. People can listen to anything they like as long as they can still focus on the book

Anyone else who can't actually listen to music and read at same time.

If I start listening to music and reading same time, I eventually realize I have just heard the whole album without actually listening it. My brain has skipped most of the enjoyable parts, but still have some kind of memory of listening the record, so I don't have the feeling to listen it again so soon. I have only managed to ruin the listening experience for some time, without getting anything out of it.

yeah, i can't read and listen to music generally. the one weird exception is that i once listened to john fahey's "dance of death and other plantation songs" while reading faulkner's "the sound and the fury" and found them really complimentary, and honestly i was able to focus pretty well on both. but ive never had that with any other record and book combo
