There's this spergy libertarian radio talk show host that I listen to regularly on the local conservative AM station. He regularly mispronounces college-freshman-tier words, causing me to literally cringe. Words like "consequently", "schadenfreude", stuff like that. There's two or three that he consistently gets wrong and I'm struggling to remember what they are.

Basically he's smart enough to have encountered the words in print several times and understand their meanings, but he clearly never had occasion to use and test-drive the words in conversation, growing up - as in the setting of a university education.

I'm unfamiliar with French. I speak English, German, Dutch, and Afrikaans. Pronouncing the names of people and places in Sub-Saharan Africa can be a pain in the ass because some are rooted in French, Dutch, English, German, or Portuguese and others are rooted in Arabic or various African languages. A large portion are blends of various origins. That said, a supposed expert on the region who is from the region should know how to pronounce the names. An expert on Japanese history wouldn't say "Kuh-yoo-shoo" or "Mee-jee"
