Why are Meds so based? Taleb, Nassr, Jorjani etc., they are all leagues above any "western" philosopher at the moment.

Don't take the Taleb threads seriously, he's our most recent meme now that Peterson is on his way out. I think it may just be one or two people who constantly post about him, too. We don't actually like him or think he has anything interesting to say.

Of his books, I'd avoid starting with Fooled by Randomness or The Bed of Procrustes. Any other would do nicely. That said, all are worth reading. The former is a little dry. The latter is best thought of as a sort of appendix to his entire project.

He basically BTFO the entire modern portfolio theory in finance and proved Scholes got his famous Black-Scholes-Merton formula for options from older scientists and a guy who wrote a bestseller on gambling

It seems obvious we can't predict things, but huge parts of economics and finance are based on predicting return and risk

Honestly, the only writer I seriously recommend reading all of his works in chronological order. FbR is extremely light and reads very easily, BS is fucking amazing and drives home the point, TbofP is good and should be read last or skipped (most are derived from other writings or books, A-F changed my world view entirely, and I haven't read SitG.

No it’s not... that’s the most fallacious claim he makes.

Economics is not about greed. It’s about analyzing how people organize resources and institutions in a society. It is integral to the development and structure of modern society.

Finance is the area with greed.

Because sociology has too small a dataset to provide a prediction with a reasonable standard deviation. You are looking at a handful of cultures which are quickly becoming homogeneous (or at very least nowhere near statistically independent) over less than 100 years with good data. And not just that but the 100 years studied are unprecedented so you must either conclude it's an awful dataset or that nothing will ever be predictable in which case the whole science is useless. Macro economics has the same problem. Micro seems fine
