The biggest issue is that they should've done the TV show after he finished the books. Yes we wouldn't have gotten the amazing actors we've come to know and love like Emilia Clarke no actually, Snow, Tyrion, Charles Dance etc but because he's already a lazy cunt....giving him success before actually completely the books just completely cements his procrastination.

Here is this fuck that wrote a good introductory book, but the sign of a good writer is if they're able to tie all back together and give a book a satisfying conclusion. It's easy to come up with interesting ideas but not easy to play them out and see them through.

By giving this prick money, fame and success before even proving his series is actually good (by ending the fucking thing) we've sealed our souls into this shitty timeline, simple as that.

Now he's clearly too scared to finish the books because he's scared of being judged next to the show, he's scared of the entire world watching and picking through every word written. Whereas before when it was just the books he could do what he really wanted and then people liked him and the books for it. Thanks Dabid and Dan.

..and we haven't yet seen if he can make the last books satisfying enough to consider the series as a whole "good" rather than as it currently stands "great first few books, got boring bloated and drawn out in the middle".

Hey guys, it's bunnyanon with one last shill.

Still a few hours left of the book's giveaway. If you live in the US, and haven't gotten too interested in the book but would be okay with free stuff, feel free to give it a go.

That'll be all. Think I'll take a break out of shilling for a while, write a new book or two. Currently doing a sex scene for the sequel.

At worst the series is totally unnecessary.

The thing is, there's no teleology in his work. His purpose was nihilistic, to attack the classical fantasy structure and morality, etc. He basically did that already in the first book, by killing Ned. So what else is to do, where should the narrative and ideas lead next? GRRM doesn't know, of course, and even to the readers it's irrelevant, really. When at the end of a classic novel the main character dies that means and symbolizes something, he doesn't die just so. Same goes for any other good ending. The writer is guiding the story, every one of its elements, towards it, and so produces a compact, functional whole. But GRRM can do whatever, it won't matter if these or those guys win or a fucking asteroid hits the planet. It won't mean more than a sport match to the audience, exciting while it's happening, irrelevant on any deeper level when it's over. So he's aimless now, he has already written all that he wants and needs to.

I get the feeling he wanted back in the day for it to lead to something like Danny "breaking the wheel" and changing the political structure of westeros from monarchy to democracy or something but then over the decades that fire of "democracy is good" seems to have died down in society and in george. That's the thing when you take 50 years to do something, your ideas inevitably change and you'd have to force yourself to finish pushing it out, and are probably worried people will think it underwhelming and dumb in the modern day. I bet it would've been great in the 80s/90s. Especially after the fall of the USSR if this is the direction he's leaning in.

There's also the bittersweet ending he wanted rather than the happily ever after trope.

publishers don't give a shit at all about authors wishes. Look at what happened with the Dragon Tattoo books

>> No.11802352

I think the next book is done but being held back because of the show. They don't want the show spoiled and it makes sense economically to release it at the end of the season when people are still talking about it.

The last book in the series will never be finished because Martin is a hack who wrote himself into a hole. As the series progresses he starts to over rely on the same tricks, like rape to shock people or lead readers to believe characters are dying. Every major character has at least one fake out death and it's gotten to be so lame. He's not a good writer.

Yeah I think its a mixture of both those thongs. He's said before how he's going to make the books different from the show, and now he has to force himself to change the story unnaturally, and he's also used the "shocking" things so much now that it seems stale

people wouldn't bother the old man about dying if he would bother to lose the beach volleyball weight.

I like WoT (despite it's flaws)
I like Brandon Sanderson (for his world building and the speed that he puts out books)
I did not like his WoT books, though he had to use the notes provided for him instead of writing them from scratch, which may have interfered with his creative process.
He might do an okay SoIaF, I don't know if he can write gritty fantasy.
